Are you searching for a way to protect your furniture, but you don’t want to have a heavy or breakable coaster. Well, check out these Puff Stitch Coasters. They are great for kids, keep reading to find out why I had to design them to make my life easier.
When my son was young he would get into everything! It was insane! We had to move out lamps, all decorations and even end tables. Nothing was safe from my beautiful wild boy.
I had to figure out how to make everything childproof. I was on a mission to design the best coasters that were soft (safe) and absorbent. After much trail and error I finally came up with the Puff Stitch Coasters.

I orignally used Lion Brand Cotton Ease yarn, it was amazing and perfect! An acrylic cotton blend. It was light and absorbent, but they have since discontinued this yarn. Cotton Ease has been replaced with another equally amazing yarn, 24/7 Cotton. 24/7 Cotton is a 100% mercerized cotton and I think it works up so beautifully. What’s so great about the mercerized cotton, is the gorgeous shine it gives the yarn.
Other fantastic yarns you could use that also work up quick and beautifully would be Lily Sugar’n Cream Yarn, Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn and Scheepjes Bloom Yarn. Each yarn has it’s own great qualities. Hobby Lobby I Love this Yarn is so soft and your colors are endless. I have tried Scheepjes Bloom yarn and loved it! However, I’m pretty sure it has also been discontinued. Lily Sugar’n Cream Yarn is a workhorse cotton yarn making it great for all projects that require washing and wear. The only thing I dislike about using the Lily Sugar’n Cream yarn is that it separates quite easily and my hook tends to snag easily when I’m working the puff stitches.
I also have some completed sets of these coasters in my Etsy Store. Swing by and see if any will go with your home’s decor.
Check out the pattern in my Etsy Store. These little cuties make great gifts for newlyweds, new home owners and as stocking stuffers. I would love to see your projects so don’t forget to tag me @thejonesyco and use the hashtag #puffstitchcoasters. Happy Hooking 🙂
