The Arya Toque — Crochet Beanie Pattern
As designers we find inspiration all around us. Whether it will be in nature or in the people we are around. My daughter, Arya, was the inspiration for the name of this crochet hat pattern. She is beautiful and unique. She loves dolls and princesses and wants to be a Ninja Mom when she grows up. Her big brother has made quite an influence on her. I love how she is gentle and girly, but so tough. This hat is just like that.

I ran acrossPremier Puzzle Yarn in the clearance bin at Joann’s one day while shopping with my daughter. The yarn was so intricate and unique I couldn’t get over it. So of course, I bought 3 different skeins. Since I really had never come up with a hat design before, I decide I would just pick up a hook and see what happened. The design that allowed the colors and textures to stand out even more.
The band to be stretchy, but not to bulky. I used a variety of Front Post Double Crochet and double crochet to create a stretchy band that wouldn’t be too thick. The hat is worked bottom up, and the top is cinched together. Since it is cinched it gives this incredible highlighted coloring at the top. It looks almost like a flower or a star. I’m pretty sure that’s my favorite part of the design.
Another great yarn to use for this pattern is Lion Brand Scarfie Yarn. Scarfie yarn has more of a subtle coloring and allows more of the texture in the hat to show through. Scarfie yarn feels so luxurious and high quality making it great for gifting.
